The Invisible Library

This site documents a huge selection of books that only appear within other books -- imaginary, unpublished, or simply no longer extant. For example, you can find a brief entry for Oolon Colluphid's God trilogy, "Where God Went Wrong," "Who Is this God Person Anyway?" and "Well, That About Wraps it Up for God," all of which got brief mention in Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The imaginary books mentioned by Jorge Luis Borges are all here, as are Italo Calvino's. You'll also find a mention of the Fortsas Catalogue, a list of one-of-a-kind books purportedly being auctioned off by a wealthy Belgian. Turns out, the whole thing was an elaborate hoax designed to dupe a number of prominent book vendors by seducing them with books made up to appeal specifically to them. You can find images and translations of the catalogue on the site.
